Evidence

Three sets of numbers circulate, and the kit could not check them against the 1835 Comptes rendus. They differ in the size of both series and in the lithotrity deaths, but all give about one in five dying after lithotomy and one in forty to fifty after lithotrity.

Current standing

Unresolved in detail. The film uses only the ratios, "about one patient in five" against "about one in forty", which every version supports. The screenplay's note records the numbers as disputed and the ratios as safe.
